Doc Possum
was originally formed in the winter of 1994 as an outlet for the
songwriting of Corning, NY native David Cavallaro. Cavallaro
recruited a few of his friends to fill out the band's line-up
and soon they started to develop a following based on their
melodic rock songs and dynamic stage show. Although the band
soon became the big fish in the small pond , things just were not working out and the
original line-up soon called it quits.
Cavallaro, being a bit disillusioned by the
whole experience, went back to work on his own and after a soul
searching weekend locked in his room, recorded a batch of
songs that proved that his music still needed an outlet.
Cavallaro recruited fellow former possum Mike Edger
and they embarked on a successful acoustic duo stage show that
lasted for over four years and produced several live
recordings. The band also had a few limited engagements as a
full four piece rock band and on one occasion the original
line-up reunited for a gig.
After a great run with the acoustic duo format, Doc
Possum faced another change when Edger left the group to
concentrate on his college endeavors. Cavallaro played a few
solo acoustic gigs and entertained the idea of putting a band
together, but realized he really needed a break from the whole
thing in order to keep his perspective
honest.
After taking a year or so off, Cavallaro
turned his attention towards the music that had recently been
kicking around in his head from the help of his two little ones
running around the house. Doc quickly set out to pen some tunes
for his first ever kid's music release entitled "Pouch
Music" and it's success cam equite quickly. "Pouch
Music" gathered national exposure via reviews in the LA
Times and constant airplay on the Music Choice channel "For
Kid's Only". Doc once again recruited former possum Mike
Edger and new drummer AC Dobson to help round out his live stage
show and then they were off. Within the next 6 months they had
the pleasure to perform at larger venues such as the Clemens
Center, Corning Museum of Glass, various festivals and schools
and the city of Binghamton's First Night New Years Eve
celebration for the upcoming 2004 year.
Doc is currently in the middle of working on his
next project and feels
refreshed and excited about the possibilities that lay ahead for
Doc Possum. Be sure to stay tuned to the NEWS
